A northwesterly airflow lies over the country today while a front lies over the South Island and slowly moves northwards. Warm temperatures out east.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Mostly cloudy with northwesterly winds, areas of sun about Northland. There may be a patchy light shower the Waikato and Bay Of Plenty.
Highs: 17-20

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Mostly cloudy with northwesterly winds, the odd patchy shower possible from afternoon.
Highs: 15-16

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny with some high cloud, cloud thickens in the evening with a few spots of rain possible later on. Northwesterly winds.
Highs: 19-20

Wellington

Cloudy with patchy rain or showers, brisk to strong northwesterly winds.
High: 14

Marlborough & Nelson

Cloudy with gusty northwesterly winds, strong in the afternoon. The odd spot of rain possible mainly in the morning. Nelson sees scattered rain across the day, easing from mid afternoon then picking up again overnight.
Highs: 15-18

Canterbury

Thick high cloud with northerly winds, gusty or perhaps strong from afternoon about Mid and North Canterbury especially inland. Winds then easing later in the evening. The odd spot of rain possible from afternoon, rain may spread into the foothills during the day from the west.
Highs: 17-19

West Coast

Cloudy with areas of rain, heavy at times with possible thunderstorms. Breezy northwesterly winds.
High: 15

Southland & Otago

Scattered rain more persistent about inland areas then clearing around midday with sunny areas developing as northeasterly winds tend north to northwest.
Highs: 13-15
