A strong west to southwesterly airflow lies over the country today, most regions will see showers, some heavy with thunderstorms and hail. Some snow possible down to 300m in the far south.

Auckland & Northland
Mostly cloudy with freshening northwesterlies, rain develops this afternoon then eases to showers as winds change gusty southwest.

Bay Of Plenty

Cloudy with northwesterlies freshening this morning, a gusty westerly
change this afternoon brings showers for a time then clearing.
High: 17

Waikato & Central North Island

Cloudy with rain moving in this morning, northwesterlies freshen. Rain
easing to showers then clearing this afternoon with a gusty southwest change,
sunny areas increase.
Highs: 14-16

Eastern North Island

High cloud this morning with northwesterlies becoming strong, a risk of
gales especially about the Wairarapa. Around midday there could be a few spells
of rain spread from the west then becoming mostly sunny with strong
westerlies.

Western North Island

Rain this morning with strong northwesterlies, easing to showers this
afternoon as winds tend strong westerly.
High: 15

Wellington

Strong to gale northwesterlies this morning with some rain, rain eases to
showers this afternoon as winds change strong southwesterly.
High: 15

Nelson

Rain clearing this morning then sunny spells developing, strong WNW winds
change SW by midday.
Highs: 15-16

Marlborough

Strong northwesterlies with a risk of gales, a few spells of rain may
spread from the west first thing this morning. Winds change strong southwesterly
by midday bringing some cloud and the risk of a shower or two, mainly later this
evening. Winds then ease overnight with skies clearing up.
Highs: 17-18

Canterbury

Sunny with gusty northwesterlies at first today, by mid morning a strong southwest change moves in bringing showers some of which could be heavy with hail then clearing by midnight. Some snow lowering to 500 or 400m in the evening before clearing.
High: 16

West Coast

Heavy showers easing during today, clearing in the evening. Strong
southwesterly winds.
Highs: 13-14

Coastal Otago

A strong southwest change develops this morning bringing showers, some
heavy with hail. Snow to 400m. Gales possible at times especially right on the
coastline.
Highs: 11-12

Central Otago

Morning rain eases to showers with a gusty southwest change, showers may be
heavy at times with hail. Some snow to 700m lowers to 400m in the evening.
Showers clear by midnight.
High: 9

Southland

Showers, heavy at times with hail and thunderstorms, snow to 400m (possibly
300m at times). Showers ease in the evening then clear around midnight. Strong
cold southwesterlies ease later in the day.
High: 10
