Monday night’s national forecast

A ridge lies over the country tonight bringing mainly settled conditions overnight, however for western parts of the North Island a trough still brings some inclement weather this evening but this should ease by midnight. A departing low brings rain for Hawkes Bay and Gisborne this evening with heavy falls, the rain retreating from the south as the night wears on. Meanwhile a building westerly airflow about the lower South Island brings drizzle to Fiordland.

Showers, some heavy with possible hail clearing later this evening, breezy southwesterlies.

Auckland

Any remaining isolated showers clear this evening, clear spells for the rest of the night with south to southwesterly winds.

Bay Of Plenty

Isolated showers, some heavy then clearing overnight, southwesterly winds.
Some parts of the region may remain dry.
Tonight’s Low: 4

Waikato & Central North Island

Rain or showers, heavy about the Waikato with thunderstorms and hail easing
this evening and mostly clearing by midnight. Cloud breaking up overnight, south
to southeasterly winds.
Tonight’s Lows: 0-2

Eastern North Island

Areas of cloud about the Wairarapa, rain further north with heavy falls.
Rain becoming more restricted to Gisborne overnight, clearing away from Hawkes
Bay by midnight. South to southwesterly winds.
Tonight’s Lows: 3-4

Taranaki

Areas of cloud breaking away overnight, any showers about this evening
clearing. Brisk southeasterlies ease later.
Tonight’s Lows: 4-5

Western North Island

Areas of cloud clearing overnight, there may be a shower or two this
evening north of about Palmerston North then clearing. Southeasterlies
ease.

Wellington

Skies becoming clear by midnight, light winds.
Tonight’s Lows: 3-4

Nelson

Clear skies, light winds.
Tonight’s Low: 2

Marlborough

Clear or skies becoming clear this evening, light winds.

Clear skies, light winds and frosty.
Tonight’s Low: -2

West Coast

Clear spells and some gradually increasing cloud, light winds. Drizzle
about Fiordland from this evening. Colder temperatures about some inland areas
overnight.

Coastal Otago

Clear skies, light winds.

Central Otago

Mainly clear skies tonight, light winds tend westerly.

Mainly clear with a few clouds about, northwesterly winds.
