Monday night’s national forecast

A front moves over New Zealand tonight coming in from the west. Many western areas will see a period of rain or showers overnight while out east mainly dry conditions can be expected.

Northland
Mainly clear although some cloud developing later this evening, west to northwest breezes. A few showers may move through overnight or towards dawn tomorrow morning.
Lows tonight: 10-11

Central North Island, Waikato, Bay Of Plenty & Auckland
Clear spells and some cloud with west to northwest breezes, a period of showers move through overnight.
Lows tonight: 4-10

Eastern North Island
Mainly clear skies tonight with light winds, some high cloud for a time especially about Wairarapa.
Lows tonight: 6-7

Wellington & Western North Island
Any showers clearing this evening, remaining fairly cloudy. Overnight another period of showers move through. Brisk northerlies about Wellington and winds tend more northwest elsewhere.
Lows tonight: 8-11

Nelson
Cloudy periods with northerlies, cloud clears evening but then expect high cloud to thicken. Overnight a period of showers moves through.
Low tonight: 6

Canterbury & Marlborough
Some high cloud develops this evening. Easterlies about Christchurch and some coastal areas ease, light winds elsewhere in Canterbury. Northwesterlies for Marlborough.
Lows tonight: 4-6

West Coast
The odd shower then rain moves in this evening, could be a heavy fall and thunderstorm or two mainly north of about Hokitika. Northerlies.
Lows tonight: 7-8

Coastal Otago
High cloud develops this evening with easterly breezes easing. A spot of rain is possible overnight otherwise expect mainly dry conditions.
Low tonight: 6

Southland & Central Otago
Brief rain moves through this evening with northerly breezes, rain clears around midnight and clear areas develop.
Lows tonight: 3-5
