Monday Newsfeed: Summer has arrived

Well it’s been here for a month or so now in a governmental / meteorological sense, the astronomical variety has been around for a touch over two weeks (from the 22nd December). In terms of the weather it’ll really kick in from today as there is going to be plenty of high pressure in the forecast for the next week or two. Unfortunately the flip side to this coin is there will be a fair amount of dry weather to.

Much of the upper North Island has a mix of sun and cloud today, Northland could see a clearing shower this morning in the east. Cloud may be thicker for Bay Of Plenty and Auckland where there is the low risk of one or two light showers. The eastern North Island and in the west south of Taranaki has a great day. Temperatures will be warm reaching into the mid to late twenties.

The South Island has good weather all round, perhaps a few mid level clouds for the West Coast (more so down towards South Westland) and about Southland and Otago. There will also be some high cloud spreading north over the Island during the day but this will be welcome to prevent the sun from being too harsh. Temperatures are warm or hot reaching into the late twenties, hitting the early 30’s for some inland spots.
