**FORMAL REPORT**

PLEASE ALSO ADD YOUR REPORT TO FIREBALLS AOTEAROA:

Fireball Aotearoa is a collaboration between scientists at the Universities of Canterbury and Otago, and citizen scientists who operate meteor observation cameras across Aotearoa New Zealand. Their aim is to recover freshly-fallen meteorites following fireball events. Simply go here to do this:  https://fireballs.nz/about/

Please do not email us as we can’t reply to meteor reports – due to the overwhelming volume of normal daily sightings. Please do not be offended if you do not hear back from us about a meteor sighting or light sighting in the sky.

Please note – we may share your email address with Fireballs NZ if they request to follow up on any casual sightings. Please be ok with this possibility when you share your email address with WeatherWatch.co.nz. Thanks!

Think may have seen a meteorite fly past saw it from our window and dashed outside to get a better look at it..we sit high on a hill so awesome view of whatever it was… tonight was between 9.30 9.40pm big Golden Ball flying across the night sky too fast for plane or helicopter… it went past and got smaller and disappeared.. In Motueka last night 2910 we saw the same meteor. It seemed very bright and low in the sky travelling from east to west. It seemed to last for ages. Never seen one moving so slow and lasting as long. Was pretty cool

Just saw a meteor from Upper Hutt out to the NW streaking south at circa 10 degrees decline – almost horizontal. Never seen a trajectory that shallow before!

At around 8:30pm I saw a bright, large meteor falling from the sky in Nelson. It appeared very luminous and disappeared just before reaching the mountain line. It lasted about 30seconds to possibly one minute but was clearly visible. It was incredible
