A front weakens over the North Island on Tuesday, a ridge brings mainly settled weather further south.

Rain or showers gradually easing during the day then clearing overnight, a band of rain as depicted below in below may be heavy in the morning then easing. Winds light, mostly tending northerly or northeast.

Any early showers clear then sunny areas increase for the lower North Island in the west, light winds. Early showers clear Hawkes Bay, showers don’t clear Gisborne till afternoon. Once showers clear expect sunny areas to increase with southwesterly winds easing and dying out.

Any early showers clear about Wellington then sunny spells increase, southerlies die out in the afternoon.

Any morning cloud clears about Marlborough / Nelson then mainly sunny with light winds tending north to northeast in the afternoon. Mainly sunny about Canterbury with some high cloud from afternoon, light northeasterly winds. Mainly sunny with light northeasterlies along the West Coast, some high cloud possible mainly about South Westland.

Mostly sunny about Southland and Otago, some high cloud possible. Light north to northwesterly winds.

Blue – Heavy form of precipitation or cold temperatures, typically below 1 to 2 degrees celsius.
White – Snow
Purple – Strong winds.
Yellow – Temperatures around the mid 20 degree mark or over.
