A front pushes northwards over the South Island tomorrow morning then onto the North Island in the afternoon, meanwhile an area of low pressure sits just off the east coast of the South Island.

For the upper North Island expect sunny spells and west to southwesterly winds, a few showers move into the Waikato in the afternoon and may reach Auckland / Northland later in the evening or overnight. The Bay Of Plenty may just see the chance of a shower late afternoon / evening.

Becoming cloudy in the morning for the lower North Island in the west, showers develop by midday some of which could be heavy then easing by evening. Westerly winds becoming gusty / strong. The east coast of the North Island is mostly sunny with light winds, low risk of an isolated shower affecting parts of Hawkes Bay and Gisborne in the afternoon and early evening.

For the upper South Island we see rain along the West Coast, easing to showers in the afternoon and mostly clearing in the evening. Nelson and Marlborough are fairly sunny with west to northwesterly winds, a southwest change later in the evening may bring a shower. Canterbury sees morning sun then showers develop in the afternoon some of which may be heavy with thunderstorms and hail, easing later in the evening and clearing overnight.

Rain in the west for the lower South Island eases to showers in the morning and clears in the afternoon, it may be dry in the morning for Southland and Otago however expect showers from midday which then clear in the evening. Showers about parts of North Otago near the coast may turn heavy with thunderstorms and hail.
