InfoGraphic: The Big Picture on Friday

The remnants of a front which is slowly crossing over the North Island today hangs around on Friday bringing a few showers for the North Island while a north to northeasterly airflow increases over the South Island.

For the upper North Island expect a fairly cloudy start, perhaps a drizzle patch. Some sun breaks through in the afternoon however there is then the risk of an isolated shower Auckland southwards. Winds mainly light.

For the lower North Island we see cloud breaking to sunny spells, chance of an isolated afternoon shower otherwise mainly dry. Light winds tending onshore in the afternoon.

Sunny areas and increasing cloud for the West Coast of the South Island, the odd light shower about Fiordland from afternoon then rain moves into South Westland overnight with the odd heavy fall. Northeasterlies becoming gusty from afternoon about the Fiordland coastline also.

Sunny about Nelson and Marlborough after any early cloud clears, light southerlies tend north to northeast in the afternoon. Any morning cloud clears about Canterbury then mostly sunny, east to northesaterly winds becoming gusty or perhaps even strong about the coast in the afternoon. Some high cloud gradually develops later in the day.

Otago and Southland see sunny areas and thickening high cloud, gusty northeasterlies develop about coastal Otago.

A warm day for some parts of the country too, getting into the mid to late 20’s for the areas marked below.

Not all regions and towns have been mentioned above. For specific 10 day information for your city, town, rural community or island please see the 1500 forecasts on our homepage!
