It’s going to be a hot and restless night across much of New Zealand tonight and into Monday morning thanks to a northerly flow.

As of 9:30pm most main centres were still 20 degrees and above.

The hottest centres are Christchurch and Kaikoura currently on 25, Hastings on 24 and Napier and Timaru on 23.

It’s 19 in Wellington with gusts to 85km/h in the city and over 130km/h on the hilltops.

Meanwhile humidity in Auckland is on the rise and is now around 72%.  The temperature is about 20 to 21 degrees across the city with a feels like temperature on the WeatherWatch.co.nz humidex of 25.
