Friday’s national forecast

Today is the last day of our low pressure system hanging over the North Island, so the last chance to enjoy some thunderstorms if your living about the Waikato or Central North Island this afternoon. Although for some they may be bothersome. The South Island is fairly tame again, a southerly gradually works its way up the east coast brining cloud and drizzle.

Auckland & Northland
Sunny spells, afternoon showers a few of which may be heavy then clearing in the evening. South to southwesterly breezes.
Highs: 18-20

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato
Cloudy spells about the Bay Of Plenty with showers now and then, a few may be heavy in the afternoon then clearing in the evening. Sunny spells for the Waikato, afternoon showers possibly heavy with thunderstorms then clearing in the evening. Winds tend easterly for most. Fog patches possible overnight about the Waikato.

Central North Island
Sunny spells with light easterly breezes after any early fog clears, a few isolated showers develop in the afternoon some heavy with thunderstorms then clearing in the evening. Clear skies overnight although there is the potential for a fog patch or two to form.
Highs: 18-20

Eastern North Island
Sunny spells with easterly winds, chance of an afternoon shower mainly about the ranges.
Highs: 19-21

Taranaki & Manawatu
Mostly sunny with light winds tending southerly in the afternoon. Inland a few afternoon cloud build ups may produce an isolated shower or two.
Highs: 20-21

Western North Island (Kapiti)
Early cloud clears to a mostly sunny day, southeasterlies ease in the morning becoming light in the afternoon.
Highs: 20-21

Wellington
Morning cloud clears to a mostly sunny afternoon, southerly breezes.
Highs: 18-19

Nelson
Mostly sunny with light winds and afternoon northerlies,
High: 20

Marlborough
Any early drizzle clears then becoming mostly sunny, southerlies tend northeast in the afternoon. Later in the evening or overnight winds tend southerly again with increasing cloud.
Highs: 20-21

Canterbury
Mostly sunny with east to northeast breezes, in the evening southerlies develop bringing cloudy periods and the risk of some drizzle.
Highs: 21

West Coast
Sunny spells with light winds tending southwesterly in the afternoon near the coast.
Highs: 18-20

Otago
Sunny with some high cloud and light winds. In the afternoon south to southwesterly winds develop bringing some increasing cloud, chance of an evening shower or drizzle patch. Warmest temperatures inland.
Highs: 17-24

Southland
Morning high cloud with light west to northwest winds, around midday a southerly change brings cloudy areas and the odd shower which clears at night.
Highs: 15-16
