Friday’s national forecast

A front moves onto the North Island this morning from the west bringing a period of showers, showers mostly clear up during the afternoon with weather coming out sunny. Winds light from the west. For the South Island expect showers on the West Coast to clear by evening, in the east expect mainly sunny weather.

Auckland & Northland
Expect a period of morning showers which clear around midday or early afternoon, sunny spells then develop with westerly breezes.

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island
Morning sunny spells, a few showers move through during the afternoon then clear in the evening as northwesterlies tend more westerly.
Highs: 13-17

Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny after any early morning high cloud clears, light winds.
Highs: 16-17

Western North Island
Sunny spells with northwest breezes, chance of a shower mainly evening. About northern Taranaki expect sunny spells also but a slightly higher risk of showers at times during the day. Showers clear later in the evening.
High: 14

Wellington
Cloudy areas slowly breaking to a mostly sunny afternoon, brisk north to northwest breezes ease later in the day.

Nelson
Sunny with west to northwest breezes.
Highs: 13-14

Marlborough
Sunny with light northwest breezes.
High: 16

Canterbury
Mostly sunny weather with light winds, there may be some morning cloud any of which clears.
Highs: 15-16

West Coast
Showers clear in the evening, light north to northeasterly winds. A few sunny spells sneak through at times from midday.
Highs: 12-13

Coastal Otago
Morning cloud then sunny spells by late morning, light winds tend northeast by evening.
High: 12

Central Otago
Mainly sunny after morning cloud clears, light winds.
High: 11

Southland
Chance of an early shower then expect mostly sunny weather with light northerlies.
