Friday’s national forecast

An anticyclone mostly covers New Zealand today with a weak front moving over the upper South Island this morning and lower North Island from midday.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly sunny, there may be a touch of high cloud. Light southwesterlies.
Highs: 16-18

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Areas of cloud with light winds, picking up from the south in the afternoon at which point a few showers move through. Showers clear by evening.
Highs: 12-15

Eastern North Island
A sunny morning, southerly winds pick up around midday bringing some cloud, risk of a shower also otherwise staying mainly dry.
Highs: 15-17

Marlborough & Nelson
A mix of sun and cloud for Marlborough with easterlies developing in the morning, cloud south of the Wairau Valley may be thicker with the chance of a morning shower or two. Nelson is mostly sunny, some cloud about the ranges with light winds tending northeast in the afternoon.
Highs: 13-15

Wellington
Sunny then some cloud develops late morning as southerlies freshen, chance of a shower also otherwise mainly dry.
High: 13

Canterbury
Showers, clearing around midday then sunny spells develop. Southwesterly winds tend northeast in the afternoon.
Highs: 10-12

West Coast
Early showers clear then becoming mostly sunny, light winds.
Highs: 13-15

Southland & Otago
Mostly sunny with light winds, southwest at first about coastal Otago then dying away.
Highs: 12-13
