Friday’s national forecast

Light north to northeasterly winds across the upper half of the North Island, expect cloudy areas and a few sunny breaks. Mostly cloudy about Taranaki with northwesterlies increasing and the odd light shower at times. Cloudy about Manawatu and western areas south of there with northwesterlies increasing, strong about Wellington. A few light showers may move through at times. Sunny on the east coast with northwesterlies freshening in Wairarapa by afternoon, also increasing high cloud.

High’s a bit warmer then yesterday around 14 to 15 degrees for most places, a degree or two lower for inland areas.

Cloudy on the West Coast of the South Island with rain, heavy south of Westport. Breezy northeasterly winds. Rain eases in South Westland at night. Breezy northwesterlies about Nelson with increasing cloud, showers later in the evening or at night. Northwesterlies will be strong to gale force about the outer Sounds, a few showers move in to the Marlborough Sounds later at night. Sunny along the east coast down through to South Canterbury with gusty northwesterlies strong at times inland, also high cloud. Cloudy about Southland and Otago with light winds, a few light showers from afternoon turning to rain in the evening.

High’s along the West Coast, also about Southland and Otago staying in the low double figures. From South Canterbury northwards along the east coast temperatures should get up into the mid teens in the afternoon.
