Friday’s national forecast

A few fronts march northwards over the country today in a very spring like pattern, rain or showers in the west while out east conditions are dry and warm. Watch for a southwest change moving up the east coast of the South Island this afternoon and evening however.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Areas of rain or showers, moving into Northland around midday, rain eases to showers overnight as northwesterly winds change southwest.
Highs: 17-20
 
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Early rain clears then expect cloudy areas and occasional sun, chance of a shower or two for the rest of the day otherwise mainly dry. Winds breezy from the west or northwest.
Highs: 15-17
 
Eastern North Island
Mainly sunny after any morning high cloud / spots of rain clears, high cloud and the odd spot of rain may hang about the Gisborne area through the afternoon. Winds breezy from the northwest.
Highs: 19-21
 
Wellington
Cloudy areas build this morning, brisk to strong northwesterly winds. Brief overnight showers with a southerly change.
High: 14-15
 
Marlborough & Nelson
Cloud builds about Nelson from morning, a few showers pass through in the afternoon. Marlborough is mostly sunny however with some high cloud thickening after midday, breezy to brisk northwesterly winds.
Highs: 16-19
 
Canterbury
Mostly sunny with increasing high cloud, a few evening showers. Winds build from the northwest then tending southwest later on.
Highs: 17-19
 
West Coast
Cloudy with showers then some afternoon rain, breezy northwesterly winds change southwest in the evening at which point rain eases to showers and mostly clears.
Highs: 13-14
 
Southland & Otago
High cloud, showers develop in the afternoon as northwesterly winds change brisk westerly. Showers clear evening.
Highs: 12-15
