Friday night’s national forecast

A ridge lies over the North Island overnight while a front moves onto the South Island. So most places are dry but there is a fair amount of high cloud about, expect rain about the far south of the South Island and on the West Coast.

Auckland & Northland
Southwest breezes ease this evening, there may be some high cloud.
Tonight’s Lows: 11-12

Central North Island, Bay Of Plenty, Waikato
Clear spells with a few clouds about, light winds tending westerly about the Waikato. Northerlies about the Bay Of Plenty then easing later this evening.
Tonight’s Lows: 6-12

Eastern North Island
Mainly clear skies, there may be some high cloud. Easterlies ease later this evening.
Tonight’s Lows: 10-11

Western North Island
Clear spells and some cloud, cloud increases overnight. Westerlies.
Tonight’s Low: 10

Areas of cloud with brisk northerly winds.
Tonight’s Low: 13

Areas of cloud, breezy north to northeasterly winds ease later this evening.
Tonight’s Lows: 11-12

Northwesterly winds ease this evening, some high cloud.
Tonight’s Lows: 10-11

Some high cloud, east to northeast breezes easing near the coast later this evening.
Tonight’s Low: 10

West Coast
Cloudy with northeasterlies, rain about Fiordland spreads further north overnight.
Tonight’s Lows: 12-13

High cloud with east to northeast breezes near the coast easing later. Northerly quarter winds inland. A brief spell of rain possible overnight.
Tonight’s Low: 7-11

Cloudy with some rain this evening and overnight, dry spells too. Northerly winds.
Tonight’s Lows: 10-11
