Flooding a possibility overnight

Auckland’s rain warning has been reinstated after being cancelled earlier today by MetService as a slow moving low drifts down from the north.

It appears the heaviest rain will push across the north eastern side of the North Island.  The rain warnings have now been extended to include Hawkes Bay.

WeatherWatch.co.nz says the rain will be welcome by most but warns people should be aware of rising streams and rivers.

The heavy rain, coupled with such a large full moon, could create minor coastal flooding tonight reports WeatherWatch.co.nz.   Strong winds, lowering air pressure and high running streams and rivers later today could all contribute to minor coastal flooding.

WeatherWatch.co.nz says motorists on Auckland’s Nor’Western motorway – which was flooded in late January during king tides – should be aware of the risks of sea water potentially on the lanes tonight at high tide (which is around 9:30pm) and again tomorrow morning.

A repeat of the serious January coastal flooding is not expected tonight.
