East and west – The Big Picture on Thursday

On Thursday we have a south to southeasterly airflow over New Zealand, meaning cloudy areas in the east, with a few patchy showers about, as well as some early rain for the east of the North Island.

Mostly sunny weather along the West Coast of the South Island, while the west of the North Island can expect mostly sunny conditions too.

A few showers may move through the Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Auckland and Northland in the late afternoon and into evening, as southerly winds tend more southeast.

Also overnight, skies become fairly clear over the South Island – and this could lead to light frosts about mainly and sheltered parts of the island, temperatures down to 0 or –1.
Areas nearer the coast will be cool, but not as cold.
