Daily Debrief – 1st day of 2009

WeatherWatch.co.nz

Todays highest temperature was 30 at Napier.  Humidity in Auckland meant it felt much warmer than 25 – keep in mind that was taken at Auckland Airport so in some sheltered areas some people would’ve been around 30 degrees!  What a great way to kick off 2009.

Todays lowest maximum temperature was 18 at Waiouru, Manapouri, Queenstown, Gore, Haast, Milford Sound.

Wish I could share everyone’s enthusiasm for the heat, but I cannot. I hate the heat!
Bring on Autumn.

Over here in Dannemora, Auckland my new weather station (…thank you Santa) made 31 degrees and humidity hovering around 50% most of the afternoon. I did spot a cloud at about 3pm but it was soon gone.
Great start to the 2009!!!

What a scorcher… too hot to ride my horse, didnt think that would be fair! Temp reached 31.7 today just here. Humidity did go down during the day and yes is going back up now…. I think I shouldve been a weather girl in my much younger prettier days, coz it just fascinates me!! :o)

jeez it was scorching today in the BOI. Clear blue skies ( clouded over with dusk) our guage read 31 this afternoon.
My veggies are wilting.

Was not actually all that humid in east Auckland today…weather station tells me humidity fell just below 40% this afternoon with those hot W-NW breezes.

WW Forecast Team on 1/01/2009 8:26am

Hey David,

Humidity late this afternoon was around 50 to 60% at Whenuapai and Auckland Airport…add that to the offical air temperature of 25 and the Humidex reading was about 30 degrees…but if you add that humidity to private air temperature readings of around 30 degrees you get a ‘feels like’ temperature of 38 degrees!!  No wonder I couldn’t be motivated doing anything outdoors!

As of 9pm the humidity has jumped up to around 70 to 80%…it’s going to be a hot, still, restless night I think!

Happy new year everyone

Philip Duncan
