Coldest morning of 2010 so far

Thought it was cold this morning?  You’re not wrong – it’s the coldest morning of the year so far with frosts being reported as far north as Waikato.

The morning was colder than predicted with Hamilton dropping to zero and Palmerston North and Timaru recording 1 degree at 7:30am.  Waiouru recorded -3. with Taupo on zero.

Parts of Auckland fell to 7 degrees while Dunedin had 2 along with Hawera and Christchurch 4 along with Paraparaumu and Lower Hutt.  Wellington fell to 8.

Clear skies are in order for many parts of the North Island today with clouds brushing the the east coast and moving up the South Island.

even though the weather is pretty dry but it’s evidently colder with many people optin for long pants and boots over tank tops and shorts. Is summer really over? We are in autumn right now, are we not, temperature wise?

Our Davis weather station sitting in our Coatesville paddock recorded a low of 5.5 this morning. It sure was cold after the temperatures we’ve been used to. It will make the ground temperatures drop in a hurry so there won’t be much autumn growth when we eventually get some rain.
