Weather Forecast for Auckland

Hi there, we just updated a short time ago to say "breezy to brisk" for Saturday (in other words, light in some places but a little blustery in more exposed areas). Gales are possible for a few hours but mostly marine/Hauraki Gulf. The low that is coming in does have strong winds attached but it's also weakening as it comes in.

Hi there

Looks like there will be plenty of high cloud, but areas of mid level cloud too. Some sun may break through at times from afternoon when mid level and high level cloud thins out a touch. The day is looking mainly dry but if a shower or spot of rain were to occur it may happen in the evening as higher level cloud thickens up again but the greatest chance is more overnight. Winds from the ENE and afternoon temperatures are looking in the high teens or early twenties.

It doesn't look overly muggy for Wellington on Saturday, dew points are around 14. That's not totally dry (dry in terms of the air dry) either though. Muggy conditions on Saturday start more about Auckland and especially Northland.

About as much detail as I hope you'll need right now.

Hi there, accurate forecasts for events and functions really can only be made a few days out, not 10+ days out. Feel free to ask us next week (also for where). Use our rain maps in the MAPS tab too, as they go out 10 days and give you a general idea as to where the highs and lows will be.

Could be an isolated heavy downpour, equally there may only be a few showers. Looks unsettled / quite changable around then. Besides that it's 7 days away so a bit far out yet.

Haha :) Hi Jenny, the only down side with being a free service means you don't get a discount and we can't guarantee the weather you want...!! :) You may have to wait two more Saturdays to get what you want...next Saturday could also be wet.

Hi there, yes that's a lot of rain although Auckland City does cope quite well with totals of 100mm in one day so long as it's spread out and not just in a few hours! We don't see 100mm at this stage but certainly there is a very heavy band of rain that *may* stall over Auckland (equally it may not...which is why coming up with a total for Saturday is so hard). It depends very much on the shape and structure of the band of rain...when it's so small but intense you can have 100mm but for an entire region we don't expect that at this stage. We'll be doing extra updates across Saturday iself to stay on top of it too.

Hi there, thanks for the questions. Sorry to hear the weather is bringing you down, it has a habit of being known to do that sometimes! Firstly, the wetter than normal November has been caused by warmer than average Tasman Sea temperatures - and a few other factors - creating extra rain events. The good news is that Queenstown is on the outer edges of the "bad" weather forecast for the rest of November. In fact, Queenstown is expected to be both warmer than average and drier than average in the coming week (even if a bit cloudy at times with a few showers). As for summer, we expect many warmer than average days on the way for Queenstown, but perhaps with a few cooler than normal nights in the mix (has been the pattern past couple of months too). Hope that helps... enjoy the fairly sunny day tomorrow (with a high around 20 degrees).

Yeah isn't looking the best around then, but your talking about something that's 7 to 8 days away and alot can change in that time frame. Sometimes you can lock things in a fair way out but it's been very changeable lately and that doesn't look like changing in the short term, around these times you'll only be able to start locking in forecasts more about 3 or 4 days out.

Hopefully a dry window opens up as we arrive closer to next Friday.

Hi there, wow that's a lot for Timaru in any month let alone November. We do have more rain on the way. Current best thinking is that about 50mm may come your way over the next week (possibly more). Hopefully spread out across a few days though, not all in one. Have a look at our weather video out later this morning with Phil as he's taking a detailed look at total expected rainfall across NZ between now and next Wednesday as we track two more large lows coming our way before December. Thanks for the local update, very helpful for us to see personal rainfall totals.

Looks to be about 50mm, but depending how things go this could be a tad less or a bit more. I'd say a range between 40 to 70mm may be appropriate. Even that could be out at the moment so we'll have to see how things look as we get closer. Still, that's a fair amount of rain considering things are quite wet at the moment.

Hi there, thanks for the question. MetVuw use the same maps we have (and we are looking to display ours in thumbnail style next year as well as other improvements). The biggest problem with the forecast for Saturday (and Sunday to Wednesday for that matter!) is that every day the precise placement of these downpours will shift... so that's why some weather forecasts may show a Rain icon one update, then a Sunny one or sun/showers in the next update. In a set up like this it will be hard to be specific with accuracy until much closer to the time. As it's been for a few days now, this Saturday in Auckland shows a chance of both long dry spells and some heavy slow moving downpours (a bit like today but it could be wetter - or it may be very similar to today, that's what we're yet to lock in due to the slow movement of these very large lows).

Probably best to give it a few more days otherwise you'll be asking every day about how it's changed and do we agree with the latest change. Obviously it is changing a fair bit so chances are it'll change again over the next day or two, might be one of those ones where it's better looked at in more detail tomorrow or Thursday.

I think from memory you are right on Sunday we said rain for Monday but then Monday morning we could see it was going to be more of a showery day versus rain. So showers indicate a mix of wet and dry spells where as rain is more persistent all day long sort of stuff. Why the difference? It's just the information we had on hand, it looked more wet (i.e. rain) then it did dry at times. Obviously the dry spells got the better of us.

Overnight tonight looks mostly showery but there's a steady stream of rain that works it's way up to about Banks Peninsula for a time overnight, it could stay just south of the city or it may just move onto the city, a bit 50/50. The morning tomorrow looks showery then rain / shower activity may pick up in the afternoon before clearing later in the evening.

Yes the very latest info says it'll be fairly wet for much of the day, but this could oscillate and change a bit before we get closer to the day in question. It'll naturally get more accurate the closer we get. About 3 to maybe 4 days out is when things start to appear in their final form, if that makes any sense :D

Metvuw information comes from GFS which is a model we look at also, so you are seeing the same information as us. As you realise and note in your question that is 10 days away so things could change between now and then, closer to the date will give a more accurate outlook naturally. Sorry don't have any magic crystal ball (I wish!) that will tell me the likely hood of it missing Auckland or whether it will be coming in overnight and be gone by Saturday etc. Will just have to keep an eye on things.

Keep checking Metvuw as Saturday get's closer, feel free to come back and ask closer to the time if you like also.
