Iโve been a long time supporter of WW in Northeast Waikato. But since you teamed up with Metservice I have found that you have been over- forecasting rain that has not arrived during the summer / autumn period. I found your forecasts more accurate before you joined Metservice.

H Ian, we havenโt teamed up with MetService, we simply display the public rain radar. Our data has been independently rated as most accurate rainfall forecaster in NZ by both the NZ Government and by an international firm that measured IBM. No forecaster is perfect but weโre pleased to be leading the way as most accurate in NZ, even if not perfect (yet!).
Kind regards

Hi Carole
Much to far away at the moment to know sorry. Come back and ask us 4 to 7 days out if possible?
Also a location would be handy too! ๐
Best wishes for the sale if we donโt hear back from you.

Any guesses on what the winter will be like in Queenstown snow-wise?

Hi Alexa, thanks for the question. At this stage we donโt have a strong forecast for this but there are signs that it may be a later start this year. Too mild at the moment (and dry) โ but actually sometimes a milder winter can create more snow in southern areas. The month of May doesnโt look too snowy around Queenstown, but there is a temp drop coming next week which bring a dusting on the mountains.
Cheers

Hi Team, Whatโs with the warm weather we are having in Kaiapoi still? Last year I remember frosty mornings and stunning sunny days? Not complaining but seems unseasonably warm.

Hi Amber, thanks for your question. Yes very mild at the moment, due to a few reasons. 1) High pressure stuck over NZ acts a bit like a glasshouse, keeping it fairly mild by day. 2) Marine heatwaves/above normal coastal sea temperatures act a bit like a luke-warm hot water bottle at night time, keeping conditions mild. 3) The high pressure zones over NZ are stopping decent cold southerlies from heading right up the nation. Our latest ClimateWatch update explains more about why itโs mild and what you can expect in the month(s) ahead: https://www.weatherwatch.co.nz/content/climatewatch-not-your-normal-may-on-the-way-15-maps-video

What are the chances of it being a very cold/snowy winter in invercargill after this cracking summer we had. Havenโt had a decent snowfall in a while so was just wondering if this is the year

Hi Bill, thanks for your question. At this stage weโre not locking in any significant details about winter but a snowy blast in Invercargill is possible every year. This year itโs warmer and drier than average โ but sometimes warmer weather in winter can actually make for more snow (as cold air hitting warm, moisture laden, air can see very heavy snow). The weather pattern NZ has had this year doesnโt support major southerlies yet โ but that could change in winter. Weโll have more details about the winter weather pattern in a few weeks time.
Cheers
