As of 2024 we will no longer be publishing questions related to weather forecasts if they are answered via our hyper-local hourly & 10 day forecasts, weather maps and regular daily and monthly weather & climate videos.
We’re a small NZ business with limited resources to respond to general weather questions. Our social media pages may be helpful to you, especially if you want to often talk (or groan!) about your local weather. You can find more resources from us here if that’s your thing.

Thanks for your support!
Don’t forget to check out our RuralWeather.co.nz website (great for event planning or attending + camping!) and also, our brand new Weather Alerting App!

Is there a place to find the humidity in the past/now? if not I might use others, which is disappointing as you guys have always been my go-to.
Thanks

We have all humidity at RuralWeather.co.nz. Not past history though, but current humidity and hourly forecast for the next 10 days out. It’s also available in our free WeatheWatch app under “trends” and “daily data”. NZ Government doesn’t provide open data (historical data) which means you need to go to Niwa or MetService directly to access publicly built/owned historical data.
Kind regards,

Over the past few months, has the inner AKL region experienced more severe weather, specifically thunderstorms, than in comparable months in previous years? Judging by the number of severe thunderstorm warnings issued by Metservice and the number of alerts via my mobile it would seem so? Or are they just playing it safe ito of predictions? You guys are definitely the go-to for weather info. Thank you!

Hi Helen, yes there has been an uptick in severe weather/thunderstorms/downpours in Auckland lately (and Northland and other parts of northern NZ in particular). That has been due to a series of both low pressure areas around the north of NZ, but mainly due to very powerful anticyclones to the east of NZ dragging down sub-tropical air. This set-up often causes this weather but we don’t always get this set-up every year, hence why it’s noticeable now. Autumn, Winter and Spring can all produce a lot of thundery weather when more tropical air is mixed into the NZ area. Thanks for the support of what we do 🙂

Interesting Wellington is forecast for 30mm of rain tomorrow, yet the latest MetService forecast shows much less than that (closer to 10). No rain warning which i’d expect for 30mm
