What a difference a day makes

While some of you South Islanders basked in sunshine and summer warmth yesterday, many of you weren’t so lucky.  Today, that changed for a lot of you.

Take a look at this…

Yesterday’s high in Gore was 13.  Today at 3:00pm, it was 22

Yesterday’s high in Dunedin was 16.  Today at 3:00pm, it was 24

Yesterday’s high in Timaru was 16.  Today at 3:00pm, it was 22

Yesterday’s high in Invercargill was 15.  Today at 3:00pm, it was 23

Yesterday’s high in Ashburton was 15.  Today at 3:00pm, it was 22

The weather improved for some North Island folks too, including Auckland.  The temperature swing wasn’t as dramatic, but some decent sunshine finally showed up.

All of those South Island locations that I just mentioned will like see the weather take a turn for the wetter startiing late tonight and lasting into tomorrow.  More rain and cool air is expected to overspread the South Island tomorrow into Wednesday.

And the rollercoaster ride continues…

Yes, well umm, today was a fine sunny day eventually after the clearance of cloud this morning. ENE developing with a fine but a windy, sunny hazy day. You couldn’t see the Southern Alps because of the haze.
The first week of February which is usually the hottest period of the day looks likely to have temperatures around the mid twenties. No 40C temps like last year year.

Is this synopsis a day early? Not sure about Invercargill, but Timaru, Ashburton and possibly Dunedin should all get *warmer* tomorrow, with the nor’wester and the warm upper air moving across. May be cloudier for some, but somewhere in the east may well top 30 depending on the movement of the high cloud. MetService doesn’t have rain and cooler air moving in until Wednesday.

At this stage, Invercargill is supposed to be 24 and dry till late in the day and then it moves up the east coast during Wednesday…

None of the places mentioned above, have any rain forecast until later tomorrow lasting into Wednesday…
