A westerly airflow lies over the country today as high pressure lies to the north of the country and low pressure to the south. Expect showers in the west with mainly dry weather out east.

Central North Island, Waikato, Auckland & Northland
Showers now and then, especially afternoon north of the Waikato with a risk of hail. A few sunny spells at times. Showers clear in the evening. Gusty west to southwest winds.
Highs: 10-14

Bay Of Plenty
Cloudy periods with sunny breaks at times, brisk westerly winds. There may be a brief showers in the afternoon otherwise expect a mainly dry day.
Highs: 14-15

Eastern North Island
Brisk westerly winds, mostly sunny with some cloud at times.
Highs: 14-15

Western North Island
Showers with strong gusty westerly winds, winds tend a little more southwest about northern Taranaki. A few sunny spells may sneak through at times.
Highs: 13-14

Wellington
Sunny spells and some cloud, brisk northwesterly winds.
High: 13

Nelson
A few early showers clear then expect sunny spells and some cloud with brisk southwesterly winds, southwesterlies ease in the evening.
High: 13

Marlborough
Sunny with some cloud, brisk west to northwest winds.
High: 14

Canterbury
Mostly sunny with westerly winds.
High: 13

West Coast
Early morning rain eases to showers, brisk west to southwest winds. Rain moves in again at night.
High: 12

Coastal Otago
Chance of an early morning shower then expect sunny spells to develop. Gusty westerly breezes easing in the evening.
Highs: 12-13

Central Otago
Morning showers clear then a few sunny spells develop from late morning. Westerly breezes. Later in the evening a few showers may start to spill in from the west again.
Highs: 10-11

Southland
Early morning showers clear then sunny spells develop by midday, gusty westerly breezes ease in the evening.
High: 12

Here in the western Waikato yesterday was a big let-down. NW breeze with the odd shower throughout the night. No thunderstorms – we love our thunderstorms!!
Today is thin overcast and basically no wind.
