A west to southwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand today, becoming unstable for the eastern South Island this afternoon.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Cloud thickens in the morning, patchy rain from late morning then easing in the afternoon as northwesterly winds change southwest. Showers mostly cleared by evening however a few may hang about Northland till overnight.
Highs: 18-21

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Patchy rain, clearing early afternoon then sun breaks through. Northwesterly winds.
Highs: 16-18

Eastern North Island
Sunny areas and some high cloud, northwesterlies change southerly late afternoon or evening bringing some cloud and the risk of a shower.
Highs: 20-24

Wellington
Morning patchy rain clears then sun breaks through, a few evening showers possible as northerlies change southerly.
High: 17

Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly sunny, a few clouds from afternoon as westerlies tend southeast bringing the chance of an isolated shower otherwise mainly dry.
Highs: 19-21

Canterbury
Some cloud, the odd shower. Showers becoming heavy in the afternoon with possible hail and thunderstorms then clearing in the evening. Unstable activity may be mostly inland about the foothills. Light southerlies tend easterly in the afternoon.
Highs: 13-15

West Coast
Occasional showers, clearing evening. Sunny spells gradually increase from afternoon. West to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 13-15

Southland & Otago
Sunny spells, may be a shower. Showers from late morning may become heavy with hail / thunder then clearing late afternoon or evening. Unstable activity may mainly stay near the coast Otago Peninsula northwards. West to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 12-15
