Wednesday’s national forecast

A low just west of New Zealand brings in cool southerlies and some rain for the South Island today, rain will gradually move over the North Island during the day coming in from the west.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly cloudy, a few showers from late afternoon or evening. West to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 22-24

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly cloudy with the odd shower then some rain from afternoon, north to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 18-22

Eastern North Island
Sunny areas and some high cloud, winds from the northwest. Some rain moves into Wairarapa during the afternoon with southerlies.
Highs: 22-26

Wellington
Cloudy with rain developing around midday, northwesterly winds change southerly in the afternoon.
High: 20

Marlborough & Nelson
Cloudy, dry at first then rain develops during the morning. Northwesterly winds change to the south late afternoon.
Highs: 20-21

Canterbury
Morning rain then showers, cool south to southeasterly winds.
Highs: 12-14

West Coast
Mostly cloudy with patchy rain or showers, easterly quarter winds.
Highs: 18-23

Southland & Otago
Mostly cloudy about Southland after morning rain clears, Otago sees patchy rain or showers. Cool south to southeasterly winds.
Highs: 10-16
