A large anticyclone is centred in the Tasman Sea today, a southwesterly airflow moving around this high flows over the country during the day.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly cloudy, chance of a shower or two otherwise mainly dry. The Bay Of Plenty has a mostly sunny day. Breezy southwesterly winds, gusty at times about western coastlines.
Highs: 16-18

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Areas of cloud and occasional sun, westerly winds. About coastal Taranaki winds will be gusty from the southwest.
Highs: 15-17

Eastern North Island
Mainly sunny then southerly winds develop about the Wairarapa in the morning bringing some cloud, southerlies develop further north around midday. Cloud breaking away in the evening.
Highs: 18-21

Wellington
A mix of sun and cloud with north to northwesterly winds.
High: 17

Marlborough & Nelson
Some high cloud at first for Marlborough then cloud develops during the morning with southwesterly winds. Cloud breaks away in the evening. Nelson sees morning high cloud then a mostly sunny afternoon.
Highs: 19-22

Canterbury
Cloudy areas and occasional sun, chance spot of rain in the morning. Winds generally from the west however they may tend onshore in the afternoon about some coastal areas.
Highs: 18-21

West Coast
Mostly cloudy with the odd shower, some rain at times about Fiordland. West to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 13-15

Southland & Otago
Morning rain eases about Southland to the odd spit by midday, showers picking up again later in the evening, breezy west to northwest winds change southwest overnight. Otago has plenty of high cloud, some sun at times with west to northwest winds.
Highs: 14-21
