A northwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand today, a cold southerly change moves onto the lower South Island early this morning however then pushing northwards during the day.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly sunny for Northland and the Bay Of Plenty, elsewhere expect some cloud at times with light west to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 17-19

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Cloudy areas, chance of a light shower or two at times otherwise mainly dry. West to northwesterly winds, breezy at times about the coast.
Highs: 14-16

Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny with some high cloud, northwesterly winds. Winds could tend northeast right on the coast about Hawkes Bay and Gisborne in the afternoon for a time.
Highs: 18-22

Wellington
Cloudy areas with gusty north to northwesterly winds, strong at times from afternoon.
High: 15

Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny areas and some high cloud, north to northwesterly winds, gusty at times in the afternoon for Marlborough.
Highs: 16-20

Canterbury
High cloud with north to northwesterly winds. Southerlies push into South Canterbury during the afternoon bringing rain, moving into North Canterbury in the evening. Snow lowers to 500m overnight about South Canterbury, 800m for North Canterbury.
Highs: 17-19

West Coast
Patchy showers, rain about Fiordland with heavy falls gradually moving northwards reaching North Westland by evening. Breezy north to northeasterly winds, south to southeasterly winds pick up from afternoon about Fiordland.
Highs: 12-14

Southland & Otago
Rain for Southland, clearing in the evening. Snow lowers to 300m in the afternoon. Otago has a dry morning then rain pushes in around midday, easing back in the evening to showers. Snow lowers to 500m about Otago by evening. Cool southerly winds push northwards during the morning.
Highs: 10-16
