Wednesday’s national forecast

A westerly airflow lies over New Zealand today, later this afternoon or evening a very cold but brief southwest change moves onto the lower South Island then moving northwards overnight.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Areas of cloud with a shower or two, mainly from midday. The Bay Of Plenty may stay fairly dry with more frequent areas of sun. West to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 14-16

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Areas of cloud, the odd shower also, more so from afternoon. West to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 9-14

Eastern North Island
Sunny with light northwesterlies, picking up a little in the afternoon about the Wairarapa.
Highs: 14-16

Wellington
Sunny with northwesterly winds picking up from afternoon.
High: 13

Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny with afternoon northwesterlies.
Highs: 12-14

Canterbury
Sunny with afternoon northwesterly winds, an overnight southwest change brings a few brief showers.
Highs: 12-14

West Coast
Mostly cloudy with a few showers, some rain about Fiordland spreads northwards during the afternoon. Rain eases later in the evening as westerlies change southwest.
Highs: 9-11

Southland & Otago
Sunny spells (a shower or two possible about coastal Southland), rain develops late afternoon or evening as breezy northwesterly winds change southwest. Rain quickly eases back to showers during the evening then clearing later. Some brief snow to 400m for a time.
Highs: 9-12
