Wednesday’s national forecast

A front still lingers over the North Island today however it may be one of the last days for this particular front. About the South Island conditions are generally mostly cloudy in the east with some drizzle possible, mostly sunny in the west after any morning cloud breaks away.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Morning sunny spells, chance of a shower. Cloud thickens in the afternoon with showers becoming more likely, may even be a downpour then clearing later in the evening. Light northerlies change to the southwest during the afternoon / evening.
Highs: 25-27

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
A mix of sun and cloud with light west to northwesterly winds. Conditions may be a bit cloudier the further inland one goes, this cloud brings the risk of a few showers then clearing at night.
Highs: 22-25

Eastern North Island
Morning sunny areas, cloud builds in the afternoon then isolated showers develop, more so about Hawkes Bay and Gisborne. Showers may even become heavy then clearing at night. Winds from the northerly quarter.
Highs: 25-27

Wellington
Sunny areas and some high cloud, winds mostly from the northwest however there is a chance winds may tend southerly for a time in the afternoon.
High: 23-24

Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny areas and some high cloud, east to northeasterly winds for Marlborough. Afternoon northerlies for Nelson.
Highs: 23-25

Canterbury
Mostly cloudy Banks Peninsula southwards with the odd drizzle patch, some sun further north. In the evening cloud and some drizzle moves further north. Winds from the southwest then swinging around to the east by evening.
Highs: 18-23

West Coast
Any morning cloud breaks away then mostly sunny with light winds tending onshore in the afternoon.
Highs: 20-25

Southland & Otago
Mostly sunny weather for Southland with light winds in the morning tending southwest after midday. Otago sees cloudy areas, especially in the east with some drizzle, sunny spells more likely inland, winds from the easterly quarter.
Highs: 17-24
