Wednesday’s national forecast

An anticyclone brings mainly settled conditions to New Zealand today however it may become unstable in the afternoon for the upper North Island.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Sunny spells and some cloud, isolated showers afternoon / evening, some may become heavy with thunderstorms then clearing later on. Light northeasterly winds for most although a sea breeze may develop along the western coastline for a time in the afternoon.
Highs: 18-20

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly sunny with light winds, afternoon sea breezes.
Highs: 18-21

Eastern North Island
A mix of sun and cloud with east to northeasterly winds. Skies may become mainly clear near the coast in the afternoon however about the ranges conditions will cloudy up before breaking away overnight.
Highs: 17-18

Wellington
Mostly sunny with light winds.
High: 17

Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly sunny with east to northeasterly winds, afternoon northerlies for Nelson.
Highs: 16-19

Canterbury
Sunny with east to northeasterly winds, picking up a little in the afternoon.
Highs: 17-19

West Coast
Mostly sunny after any morning cloud breaks away, light west to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 16-21

Southland & Otago
Any morning cloud clears then mostly sunny with light winds, afternoon sea breezes. Low risk of an isolated shower late afternoon / evening for inland eastern parts of Otago.
Highs: 15-23
