Wednesday’s national forecast

Upper North Island

A few showers, mainly morning although the odd one may linger till evening. Strong southwesterly winds gusting to gale at times especially about the coast then easing in the evening.

Lower North Island

Showers ease, mostly clearing around midday although the odd one may linger till evening. Gusty cold southwesterly winds ease later in the day. Snow flurries about the Central North Island to 600m clearing by midday. Winds about the east coast will likely gust to gale at times then easing later in the day or overnight.

Upper South Island

Sunny or becoming sunny early in the morning about Nelson, Marlborough and the West Coast. Gusty southwesterlies ease during the day. Showers and snow flurries to 400m clear coastal Canterbury in the morning then sunny areas increase, dry further inland with sunny areas increasing from morning. Winds strong from the southwest about the coast with a risk of gales, easing later in the day.

Lower South Island

Showers with snow flurries to 400m (perhaps even 300m) clearing during the morning then sunny areas increase. Cold southwesterlies ease.
