Wednesday’s national forecast

A front pushes over New Zealand from the west mainly during the morning today however not clearing some eastern parts of the North Island till later on. A northerly quarter airflow tends southerly about the lower South Island this afternoon meanwhile a deep low is centred just to the west.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Rain with a few heavy falls then clearing this afternoon as breezy northeasterly winds change northwest, some sun may even break through for a time. About eastern Bay Of Plenty rain may not become heavy till afternoon then eases later in the evening. Later in the evening / overnight showers move in to western areas possibly heavy about western Waikato.
Highs: 19-21

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Morning rain eases then some sun may break through in the afternoon as northeasterly winds tend northerly. Rain may continue at times through much of the day, just less frequent in the afternoon. Heavy rain moves into Taranaki from evening.
Highs: 14-19

Eastern North Island

Morning rain then cloud breaks to sun in the afternoon, a few further spots of rain possible overnight. Gisborne however while areas of rain may ease in the afternoon they may continue at times. Northeasterlies tend northerly after midday.
Highs: 18-19

Wellington

Some rain, easing in the afternoon, some sun may even break through. Northerly winds.
High: 17

Marlborough & Nelson

Some rain, clearing for a time in the afternoon (more so about Marlborough) with some sun breaking through then rain moves in again later in the evening. North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 16-17

Canterbury

Morning spots of rain clear, some sun then late afternoon or evening rain as southwest winds freshen.
High: 15

West Coast

Areas of rain, heavy at times. Northeasterly winds.
Highs: 15-17

Southland & Otago

Scattered rain and dry spells, sun breaks through especially about Otago around midday then showers move in again late evening. Light northeast winds tend south to southwesterly around midday.
Highs: 11-13
