Wednesday’s national forecast

A ridge pushes over the South Island bringing weather that’s a bit more settled, still a few showers brush eastern coastal areas. The North Island is under a southeasterly airflow with showers mostly Auckland northwards and along the east coast.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

A few early showers clear about the Waikato and Bay Of Plenty then sunny areas increase, the odd shower about Auckland possibly heavy in the afternoon then clearing evening. Northland sees the odd shower throughout the day. Southeasterly winds south of Auckland push northwards later in the day.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Sunny areas, there may be a shower or two about, otherwise mainly dry. Southeasterly winds, fairly breezy about Taranaki.
Highs: 12-14

Eastern North Island

Showers with cold south to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 12-14

Wellington

A few showers otherwise a mix of sun and cloud with cold brisk southerlies.
High: 11

Marlborough & Nelson

Mostly sunny, a few showers about southern Marlborough clear in the morning. Breezy south to southeasterly winds.
Highs: 10-13

Canterbury

Early showers clear about Mid and North Canterbury then sunny areas increase, sunny from morning about South Canterbury after a frosty start. Late evening a few further showers are possible, mainly near the coast. Southwesterly winds.
Highs: 7-11

West Coast

Sunny with gentle southeasterly breezes.
Highs: 11-12

Southland & Otago

Mostly cloudy with the chance of a shower or two about Southland, otherwise mainly dry. Sunny areas elsewhere, especially about inland areas, with heavy frosts to start the day. Southwesterly winds.
Highs: 7-11
