Wednesday’s national forecast

A ridge lies over the South Island today bringing mainly settled weather, a weak area of low pressure forms about the interior in the afternoon. For the North Island we have a weak front pushing off Northland in the morning, a weak trough of sorts forms over the upper North Island in the afternoon bringing the risk of a few late isolated showers.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Sunny areas with southwesterlies dying away this morning, afternoon east to northeast winds with increasing cloud. The odd shower late afternoon or evening. Northland sees cloudy areas this morning with the chance of a shower, a few afternoon sunny areas with northeast winds developing along the east coast. Chance of an isolated shower about Northland late afternoon / evening.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Mostly sunny with southeasterly breezes, perhaps some morning cloud breaking away. Chance of a shower about Taranaki overnight.
Highs: 19-22

Eastern North Island

Any morning showers clear, cloud may break to some sun in the afternoon with southerly winds tending easterly.
Highs: 17-19

Wellington

Morning cloud breaks to mostly sunny weather, southerly quarter winds.
High: 18

Marlborough & Nelson

Cloud breaks to sunny areas by midday about Marlborough, a mix of sun and cloud for much of the day about Nelson. East to northeast winds.
Highs: 17-19

Canterbury

A mix of sun and cloud, sun increasing in the afternoon. Light winds tend easterly this afternoon.
Highs: 17-18

West Coast

A mainly sunny day with light winds tending northerly in the afternoon, low risk of an isolated shower about the ranges of Buller late afternoon / evening.
Highs: 18-20

Southland & Otago

Cloudy areas about Southland, mostly sunny for Otago. West to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 15-23
