A northwesterly airflow lies over much of the country today. Areas of rain affect from Canterbury up through to the lower North Island, especially in the west.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Sunny areas and increasing cloud for most although becoming mostly cloudy in the morning about the Bay Of Plenty with the odd late shower. North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 18-20

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Mostly cloudy with west to northwesterly winds, a few showers about.
Highs: 16-18

Eastern North Island

Early cloud breaks to a mainly sunny day. Cloud thickens about the Wairarapa in the afternoon, spots of rain there in the evening. Light north to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 19-21

Wellington

Mostly cloudy with light winds in the morning, north to northwesterly winds increase after midday. Some rain from late afternoon.
High: 15-16

Marlborough & Nelson

A cloudy day for Nelson with patchy rain, rain about the northwest Nelson ranges areas may be heavy at times from afternoon. Morning cloud breaks to sunny areas and thickening high cloud about Marlborough, northwesterly winds develop in the afternoon. A few spots of rain late afternoon or evening.
Highs: 15-17

Canterbury

Mostly cloudy with the odd shower, especially from afternoon. Northeasterly winds.
High: 16

West Coast

Cloudy with areas of rain, a few heavy falls possible then easing later in the evening. Breezy northeasterly winds.
Highs: 13-14

Southland & Otago

Mostly sunny with west to southwesterly winds, showers moving in to Southland overnight.
Highs: 13-19
