Wednesday’s national forecast

A cold southwesterly airflow lies over the country today, showers mostly clearing away from the South Island this morning then the North Island by around evening.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Areas of cloud with isolated showers, especially from afternoon with heavy falls and the chance of an isolated thunderstorm. Northwesterly winds.

Highs: 16-18

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Cloudy areas with breezy northwesterly winds, showers about especially afternoon with thunderstorms possible.
Highs: 14-16

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny with some high cloud and northwesterly winds, a few spots of rain may spread from the west late afternoon. Overnight a southwest change brings showers.
Highs: 18-19

Wellington

Cloudy areas with a few showers, breezy northwesterly winds change southerly overnight.
High: 14

Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny areas and some high cloud about most of Marlborough, breezy northwesterly winds. Nelson and the Marlborough Sounds sees slightly cloudier skies with the odd shower or two possible.

Highs: 15-18

Canterbury

Mainly sunny with some increasing high cloud, late evening showers as southwest winds develop.
High: 16-17

West Coast

Rain, easing during the morning to showers which clear in the evening, breezy northwesterly winds ease after midday. A further burst of showers possible overnight with a southerly change then clearing.
High: 13

Southland & Otago

Areas of rain with south to southwesterly winds from morning, rain clears later in the evening or overnight.
Highs: 8-11
