A cold southwesterly airflow lies over the country today, most regions can expect showers although the West Coast of the South Island is mostly sunny.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Morning showers then easing during the rest of the day, becoming fewer. Sunny areas gradually increase. The Waikato and Bay of Plenty become mostly sunny in the morning. Brisk southwesterly winds.
Highs: 14-15

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

A few showers about, mainly in the morning then clearing with sunny areas increasing. Southwesterly winds.
Highs: 13-14

Eastern North Island

Southwesterly winds freshen in the morning bringing cloudy areas and the odd shower at times, long dry periods too with some sun. Showers clear in the evening.
High: 13

Wellington

Morning showers clearing then sunny areas break through, gusty southerly winds.
High: 11

Marlborough & Nelson

Mostly sunny with southwesterly winds, cloud a little more frequent about southern Marlborough where there is the chance of a brief shower late afternoon or evening.
Highs: 13-15

Canterbury

Any early showers clear then expect sunny areas and some cloud, gentle southwesterly winds. In the afternoon a few isolated showers with snow flurries to 400m may move through as southwesterly winds become gusty, a chance of small hail too then clearing in the evening.
High: 11

West Coast

Sunny weather with any early cloud clearing, southwesterly winds.
Highs: 12-13

Southland & Otago

Morning showers with a risk of hail and a dusting of snow to 400m then clearing, sunny areas increase from afternoon with cold southwesterlies easing.
Highs: 8-9
