Wednesday night’s national forecast

A westerly airflow covers the country tonight although it is only moderate and not very strong. Anticyclonic gloom is pushing into many western areas of the North Island, the South Island’s West Coast will get some rain. For the east coasts of both islands expect mainly dry weather, a few spots of rain may spread into coastal Otago overnight however.

Auckland & Northland
Mainly cloudy with light west to southwest winds.
Low tonight: 7-9

Bay Of Plenty
Clear spells and some cloud with light southwest breezes.
Low tonight: 6-7

Central North Island & Waikato
Cloudy spells with west to southwest breezes. Could be a drizzle patch overnight.
Lows tonight: 2-6

Eastern North Island
Clear skies with light winds.
Lows tonight: 3-5

Western North Island
Mainly cloudy skies with the odd drizzle patch possible, westerly breezes.
Lows tonight: 9-10

Wellington
Clear with some cloud, northerly breezes.
Lows tonight: 9-10

Nelson
Mainly clear, there may be some cloud about. Southwesterlies ease this evening then expect light winds overnight.
Lows tonight: 6-7

Marlborough
Mainly clear skies tonight, light winds may tend westerly or northwest.
Lows tonight: 4-5

Canterbury
Clear then some high cloud develops later this evening or overnight. Expect northwest breezes inland and light winds near the coast.
Lows tonight: 2-7

West Coast
Periods of rain, easing off at times with drizzle patches. Northwest breezes.
Lows tonight: 8

Coastal Otago
High cloud develops this evening, a few spots of rain possible overnight. Light winds.
Low tonight: 7

Central Otago
High cloud thickens this evening, some rain possible overnight especially in the west. North to northwest winds.
Lows tonight: 4-5

Southland
Areas of cloud with west to northwest breezes, chance of a brief shower or two this evening.
Lows tonight: 6-7
