Wednesday night’s national forecast

A strong northwesterly airflow lies over the South Island tonight and parts of the lower North Island. Rain for the West Coast of the South Island with high cloud out east. Patchy light falls Taranaki southwards overnight in the west of the North Island, dry elsewhere.

Auckland & Northland

Mainly clear skies this evening, some cloud moves in overnight about Auckland and towards dawn for Northland. Light winds.

Tonight’s Lows: 4-8

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island

Fairly cloudy skies about the Central North Island, clear to start about
the Waikato although some cloud moves in overnight. Clear skies for much of the
night about the Bay Of Plenty, light winds.

Tonight’s Lows: 2-6

Eastern North Island

Mainly clear skies with light winds, northwesterlies about the Wairarapa
with some high cloud moving in there overnight.

Tonight’s Lows: 2-6

Western North Island

Cloudy with northwesterly winds, the odd light shower at times south of
Palmerston North. Light showers move into Taranaki overnight.

Tonight’s Lows: 8-10

Wellington

Cloudy with strong north to northwesterly winds, gust to gale force at
times overnight.

Tonight’s Lows: 12-13

Nelson

Skies becoming mostly cloudy this evening, west to northwest winds.

Tonight’s Low: 9

Marlborough

Areas of high cloud thicken later this evening, gusty
northwesterlies.

Tonight’s Low: 9

Canterbury

High cloud with northerly winds, gusty inland. A few spots of rain may
spread into the foothills overnight from the west.

Tonight’s Low: 8-9

West Coast

Cloudy with rain, heavy about Fiordland this evening then becoming heavy
further north overnight. Possible thunderstorms. Gusty northerlies.

Tonight’s Lows: 8-10

Coastal Otago

High cloud with gusty northerlies developing this evening.

Tonight’s Lows: 10-11

Central Otago

Cloudy with gusty north to northwesterly winds, rain moves in this evening
(sometimes heavy) in the west then eases overnight.

Tonight’s Lows: 7-9

Southland

Cloudy with gusty northerlies. A few spots of rain, especially overnight as
winds change westerly.

Tonight’s Lows: 8-9
