Wednesday night’s national forecast

A north to northeasterly airflow lies over New Zealand tonight, a few patchy areas of rain about some South Island areas clear later this evening. For the North Island most are dry apart from north of Auckland where one can expect periods of rain or drizzle.

Periods of rain or drizzle, muggy with fresh easterlies.

Cloudy with easterly breezes, chance of a patchy shower especially in the north. Cloud breaks up a little overnight.

Central North Island, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Cloudy spells with easterly breezes. Any patchy rain about clears this

Eastern North Island

Mainly clear skies, a few patches of high cloud this evening. East to
northeasterly winds ease overnight.

Western North Island
clear skies with light winds. Westerlies about northern Taranaki ease this

Mainly clear skies with a few clouds about overnight, southeasterlies ease
this evening.

Cloudy periods breaking up overnight, light winds. The odd patchy shower
clears this evening.

Clear spells and some cloud, northeasterly breezes ease overnight.

Central Otago

Areas of cloud move in this evening, chance of a spit of rain otherwise
mainly dry. South to southwesterly breezes ease this evening.

Southerlies ease this evening, clear with some late cloud which may deliver
a spit of rain. Light winds overnight.

Light drizzle also for several hours – and I am not on a hill inside a cloud. The %rainfall figure is misleading.
