Wednesday night’s national forecast

A low pressure system brings rain to mainly eastern areas and Northland overnight for the North Island, other areas of rain clear this evening. In the South Island Marlborough catches some rain overnight and most other places remain dry.

Northland
Rain, heavy in areas eases overnight. Easterly winds.
Tonight’s Lows: 11-12

Auckland
Sunny spells, the odd heavy shower about clearing this evening. Winds from the north. Overnight expect clear spells and some cloud, cloud more frequent in the east with the chance of a shower now and then.

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato
Clear spells near the coast for the Bay Of Plenty, showers with possible thunderstorms inland clearing later this evening. East to northeast winds. The Waikato sees isolated showers this evening, some heavy with thunderstorms then clearing later, east to northeast winds also. Chance of a fog patch overnight for the Waikato.

Central North Island
Rain with a risk of a thunderstorm or two then clearing this evening, easterly winds ease. Could be a fog patch or two overnight about sheltered areas.

Eastern North Island
Periods of rain with east to northeast winds, winds may tend southerly overnight.
Tonight’s Lows: 12-13

Taranaki
Cloudy with some rain, risk of a thunderstorm this evening in the north then areas of rain clearing overnight. Southeasterly winds.
Tonight’s Low: 11

Western North Island
Periods of rain with southeasterlies about Kapiti. Rain easing a little overnight with dry spells especially in the north. For the Manawatu expect rain to clear overnight, southeasterlies ease overnight.

Wellington
Occasional rain with breezy southerly winds.
Tonight’s Lows: 12-13

Nelson
Fairly cloudy with the odd shower at times, dry spells too. Southeasterly winds.
Tonight’s Low: 12

Marlborough
The odd drizzle patch, rain about the Sounds spreading further south overnight, brisk south to southeasterly winds.
Tonight’s Low: 12

Canterbury
Cloudy areas with southerly breezes easing overnight, chance of a remaining drizzle patch about otherwise mainly dry.
Tonight’s Low: 8-9

West Coast
Mainly clear skies, some high cloud about Buller northwards. Southeasterly winds ease this evening.
Tonight’s Low: 9-10

Coastal Otago
Clear with a few clouds about, eeasterlies ease overnight.
Tonight’s Low: 8-9

Central Otago
Mainly clear skies with light winds.
Tonight’s Low: 4-5

Southland
Mainly clear skies overnight with light winds inland, southerlies near the coast east away this evening.
Tonight’s Low: 7
