Tuesday’s national forecast

An occluded front clears the North Island this morning away to the northeast meanwhile a cold front moves through bringing additional showers (more so in the west). Another cold front brushes the far south.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly sunny, a few showers for western Waikato. During the afternoon a front moves through bringing a few showers for most as westerlies change southwest. Showers clearing later in the evening but a few remaining for western coastal areas.
Highs: 16 – 18

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Cloudy spells and a few showers, showers mostly clearing in the afternoon but a few remain for Taranaki. Fresh west to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 9 – 14

Eastern North Island

Sunny, morning cloud clears Wairarapa, morning showers clear Gisborne.  West to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 15 – 20

Wellington

Early rain clears then mostly sunny with northwesterly winds.
Highs: 13 – 14

Marlborough & Nelson

Mostly sunny for Nelson, morning cloud and any showers clear Marlborough then mostly sunny. West to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 14 – 16

Canterbury

Any early spits or showers clear then sunny, northwesterly winds.
Highs: 14 – 16

West Coast

Showers, rain for Fiordland pushes northwards in the afternoon as southwesterlies freshen, rain eases back to showers again in the evening. Snow flurries to 700m, possibly down to 500m for Fiordland.
Highs: 9 – 12

Southland & Otago
Showers for Southland, some may be heavy with small hail especially morning. Snow to 500m. Strong cold westerlies. Otago is drier with sunny spells, a few afternoon showers may push through mainly for southern parts of the region as westerlies strengthen.
Highs: 8 – 15
