Tuesday’s national forecast

Mostly cloudy about the North Island today, expect south to southeasterly winds. Some rain develops in Northland this morning then clears in the evening. Expect the odd shower about Auckland, northern Waikato, the Bay Of Plenty and along the east coast. Showers become a little more widespread along the east coast during the afternoon then clear Wairarapa and Hawkes Bay at night, clearing Gisborne towards dawn on Wednesday. Cloudy areas and perhaps some sun from Kapiti through to Taranaki, south to southwesterly breezes. Wellington, the odd shower clearing in the afternoon, southerly winds.

Showers and snow flurries to 600m ease during the day in Southland clearing in the evening with southwesterlies easing also, showers and the odd snow flurry to 600m about Otago also becoming restricted to the coast south of Dunedin in the morning then clearing there in the evening. Sunny areas develop elsewhere in Otago as the day wears on. Mostly sunny in Canterbury with some cloud, southwesterly breezes die out later. Mostly sunny in Marlborough with light winds tending southwest near the coast. Sunny in Nelson with light winds.

Mostly fine and sunny on the West Coast, some cloud at times with light winds. A few showers may affect southern Fiordland with westerly winds. During the afternoon a few isolated showers may develop about the inland ranges of Nelson, Buller and Marlborough then clearing later in the evening.

Temperatures in the mid teens today south of the Waikato, cooler on the east coast and Wellington at around 13 to 14 degrees however. North of Auckland 16 to 17 degree high’s can be expected. 13 to 14 degrees in Canterbury and along the West Coast today, mid teen temperatures in Nelson. A cooler 11 to 12 degrees in Southland and Otago.
