Tuesday’s national forecast

An anticyclone brings mainly settled conditions to New Zealand today, just a few showers for the eastern North Island to gradually clear away.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Sunny with morning southeasterlies then afternoon onshore breezes. Northland especially in the east may see some cloud and the risk of a shower or two.
Highs: 22-24

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly sunny with light winds tending west to northwest in the afternoon.
Highs: 19-22

Eastern North Island
Sunny for the Wairarapa, early showers clear Hawkes Bay then becoming mostly sunny there. Gisborne sees a shower or two hang around till afternoon then sun breaks through. Southwesterlies tend east to northeast in the afternoon.
Highs: 19-21

Wellington
Sunny with increasing northerly winds.
High: 19

Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny with afternoon north to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 21-24

Canterbury
Mostly sunny with some high cloud, light winds pick up from the east to northeast about the coast in the afternoon.
Highs: 22-24

West Coast
A mix of mid and high level cloud, cloudy for Fiordland with a light shower or two. Heavy rain moves into Fiordland overnight. Light winds tend westerly in the afternoon.
Highs: 18-22

Southland & Otago
Sunny areas and some high cloud, chance spot of rain at times otherwise mainly dry. More persistent rain moves in overnight for Southland. Northwesterly winds for most however tending northeast about coastal Otago.
Highs: 19-25
