Tuesday’s national forecast

A large anticyclone brings mainly settled weather to New Zealand today.

North Island
Any morning cloud clears the upper North Island today then mostly sunny, winds from the southwest however there may be an afternoon sea breeze for eastern Northland. Mostly sunny for the lower western North Island, any morning cloud breaks away, westerly winds.

Any morning cloud and the risk of a shower along the east coast breaks to mostly sunny weather, northeasterly winds.

Afternoon temperatures in the low to mid twenties from Wellington through to Taranaki in the west, temperatures in the mid to late twenties elsewhere. High’s may reach into the early thirties for inland Northland, Bay Of Plenty, East Cape and perhaps Gisborne.

South Island
Mostly sunny for Nelson / Marlborough. Morning cloud breaks to sunny areas on the West Coast, Fiordland may see a light morning shower or two. Canterbury may see some sun this morning then expect increasing cloud, southweterlies tend easterly this afternoon. Morning cloud with the risk of a shower about Southland then sunny areas increase.  Otago has some morning sun then cloud increases from afternoon, southwesterly winds tend northeast later in the day.

High’s in the low to mid twenties across most of the South Island today.
