An anticyclone brings mainly settled weather for the South Island today, a low brings southeasterlies for the North Island.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly cloudy with rain about Northland (more so in the east), moving into the Auckland area in the afternoon. Rain may be heavy at times then easing at night. Southeasterly winds, strong about the east coast for a time late afternoon / evening.
Highs: 16-18

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
A few morning showers then expect sunny areas and some high cloud, light winds tend southeast by midday.
Highs: 16-17

Eastern North Island
Thickening cloud, southwesterlies push northwards during the morning, tending southeast in the afternoon. Rain moves in during the afternoon north of about Napier, heavy falls for East Cape.
Highs: 15-17

Wellington
Cloudy areas with south to southeasterly winds.
High: 14

Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny with morning west to southwest winds tending easterly in the afternoon.
Highs: 14-16

Canterbury
Mostly sunny, southwesterlies die out early in the morning then east to northeast winds develop in the afternoon.
Highs: 12-13

West Coast
Morning showers clear then mostly sunny with southwesterly winds. Some cloud and a few showers hang about Fiordland during the day, especially in the south.
Highs: 13-15

Southland & Otago
Becoming mostly sunny early in the morning, some high cloud. Northwesterly winds.
Highs: 10-14
