A strengthening northerly airflow lies over New Zealand today, a front moves onto the lower South Island this afternoon then slowly moves northwards.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
A mix of sun and cloud, there may be some low cloud or fog to start the day about Waikato. There may be a shower or two out on Great Barrier Island, also parts of Coromandel. North to northeasterly winds.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly cloudy with the odd shower at times about Taranaki and Kapiti, elsewhere may see some sun and high cloud. Breezy north to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 20-25

Eastern North Island
A mainly sunny day, north to northwesterly winds pick up later in the day.
Highs: 26-29

Wellington
A mostly cloudy day, the odd shower at times. North to northwest winds becoming strong at times from midday with gales out in Cook Strait.
High: 21

Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly cloudy skies, the odd spot of rain possible especially about Nelson and the Sounds. North to northwesterly winds becoming strong from afternoon.
Highs: 22-25

Canterbury
Thick high cloud, the odd spot of rain possible. Rain more likely overnight. Breezy northerly winds, strong about inland areas with gusts to gale possible.
Highs: 25-26

West Coast
Rain with heavy falls especially south of about Greymouth, rain becoming heavy north of Greymouth in the evening. Winds quite gusty from the north.
Highs: 20-21

Southland & Otago
Some rain about Southland, moving into Otago during the afternoon and clearing by evening. Northerlies change to the west or southwest.
Highs: 19-26
