Now that most people are back to work after a long weekend, it looks like some serious sunshine will settle in.
That doesn’t mean everyone will see great weather today. But it should be one of those rare days, rare for this summer anyway, that the majority of Kiwis seen nice weather as opposed to clouds and rain.
Here’s how it breaks down…
For the North Island; an onshore flow will help to keep Gisborne and Hawkes Bay cloudy and rainy today. South to southeast winds will keep things a bit breezy. Highs should be around 20.
Another North Island location that may see rain is Wellington. The Windy City could end up with a few showers, mainly this afternoon and this evening. Highs should be in the upper teens.
The rest of the North Island looks pretty good. Plenty of sunshine is expected for most areas. Auckland and Northland will likely see plenty of clouds. But there should still be plenty of sunshine mixed in. Highs will be in the low to mid 20s.
The South Island could see the top and bottom get wet. Some showers are possible for Blenheim and Nelson late this afternoon and tonight. Invercargill could also see some showers today. Both locations are expected to top out in the low 20s.
Christchurch could also see some rain, mainly late this afternoon and early this evening. Highs should be around 20.
The rest of the island is looking pretty good. A mix of clouds and sunshine and highs mainly in the low to mid 20’s. Central Otago could be a bit warmer today pushing into the upper 20’s to around 30.

So what happened to all the suns and/or partial suns you had up for the rest of Auckland’s week? Now mostly cloud/wind/showers. Go figure…

The only thing that’s changed to the Auckland forecast this week is that we’ve slightly stepped up the cloud in the icons – nothing else has changed.

Still mostly cloudy in Whangarei, sick of the stuff, can see a bit of blue appearing in the odd spot but no sun as yet. Bit showery on & off.
Heard that we could have rain by the weekend, any truth in this?
Must be the worst summer I have experienced in Whangarei in my 27 years here. Have not shut the central heating down as usual as have needed it on the odd morning.
I suppose the change to Autumn/winter weather will be easy to bear this year.

Hi Derek – not much in the way of rain coming this week or weekend but a 40% risk on Monday rising to 60% later next week for you.
Certainly has been a cool summer for the north – vote in our poll this afternoon at 5pm, it’s asking how many people have had to use heating this summer!

How come the sunny skies always come back when I’m at work and then the cloud returns for the weekend?!
This has to be the worst summer that we’ve had in Auckland in years!

Yes it’s certainly frustrating Jessica and quite a bit of the country had the same deal. Perhaps we should get our money back??Cheers, WW

…well, if Nick Smith had taxed it, we would’ve been much better off weather-wise!!!
